Advancements in technology and social networking have made a huge impact to news media with the credibility and speed news stories are shared. New technology like, smart phones, give us the ability to have news right at our finger tips. Social networking is also something these new technologies offer us and they are responsible for much of the inaccurate information about events the public hears.
The Twenty First Century has provided new advancements in technology that are avalible to all providing us with constant connection to things. One of these things is news. We have on going information about politics, celebrities, shopping, world events, etc. Because we are so reliant on technology now, it's always around us and we hear news about everything within minutes of it taking place. "We have before us, warns veteran TV journalist Dave Marash, news and faux news traveling faster than "the speed of thought." We have before us potential disaster." - Howard Rosenberg (pg. x of Prologue) No Time to Think. He included this because it's a warning for the future of news media. He quotes Dave Marash but also clearly agrees with him about that news is traveling extremely fast now, as fast as the speed of thought. The news traveling around also is not always true he quotes. In this quote they are saying that the crazy fast speed and sometimes faux news stories could lead to disaster in news media in the future.
With these new technologies, new social media has evoloved as well as how simple it is to access. "Never has falsehood in america had such a large megaphone." - John Carroll in Howard Rosenberg's No Time to Think (pg. 16). This quote is relating the access and avalibility of technologies to a megaphone because they are loud, powerful, and are a way to get a point across or to hear information. John Carroll also says, "never has falsehood..." meaning never have false and/or fake information been so used and spread. False information and news is being spead fast and far due to how involved we are in technology and with social media.
I do think that our overuse of technology and social media makes news heard more quickly. Natually, this speed is going to affect the message and credibility of a news story. The advancements in thechnology have created news media and impacted news media in a negative way. Eventually I hope that news can be delievered with the same speed but with accurate information so it can help keep people safe and aware instead of just interested in an untrue story.
